A group of residents gathered in Whitecourt yesterday afternoon to say they’ve had enough of the government’s health restrictions.

Organizers with All Fired Up for Freedom held the “Enough is Enough Rally” in the parking lot of the Allan and Jean Millar Centre starting at 3:30.

Over 50 people came out to show their support for the rally and protest against COVID-19, mandatory masks, and provincial health measures, saying “enough is enough.” A large banner with those words hung from a crane truck alongside Highway 43, eliciting honks from passing traffic.

Presenters argued that people need to socialize, that the public health measures are taking a toll on mental health and children, and the restrictions were “unreasonable and wrong.” While the rally welcomed people wearing masks and those without, the majority of the crowd were mask-free. RCMP were in attendance, however, the rally remained peaceful.

Shortly after the rally started, the Town of Whitecourt shared via social media that they were aware of the rally, saying it was unauthorized and that the use of the Allan and Jean Millar Centre was not approved or sanctioned by the town.
